Teens

 

Our Teen program is run in conjunction with the Open Recreation program.   Members have access to a teen-only room located down the hallway from the main space.  We also offer teen-specific programming, events, and field trips.

Some of the programs for teens to participate in at the Youth Center include:

Our Teen Council focuses on leadership development opportunities.  This program is also known as Keystone Club. Youth participate in activities in four focus areas: academic success, career preparation, teen outreach, and community service.  They also participate in a national project that is based on critical issues that teens around the globe have said are important to them.  Members lead by example and are reliable, respectful, responsible, and tolerant of others.

Operation Megaphone seeks to connect teens and encourages all military youth programs to meet during the same time.  Throughout this time together we connect, have fun, and discuss key issues that affect military youth across the services.  It is typically held the last week of April, which closes out Month of the Military Child with a celebration of our oldest military kids.

Power Hour motivates youth to use some time after school to do homework or enrichment activities.  The goal is for them to achieve academic success, and encouraging them to be life-long, self-directed learners.

The annual National Arts Contest encourages youth to express themselves through the arts.  Original works of art are displayed and judged locally, and the winning pieces are submitted for regional and national level displays and voting.  Themes feature some key elements for positive youth development and other important subjects that youth and staff across the Boys and Girls Club Movement have expressed interest in.

The Youth of the Year program is the Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s highest honor.  Teens, ages 14-18, are celebrated for their commitment to community service, academic success, and good character.  Military Youth of the Year was introduced in 2013 to recognize outstanding teens served by BGCA-affiliated Youth Centers on US military installations worldwide.  Youth must be active and involved members in military youth programs for a minimum of two years to qualify.
