Swim the Distance is a popular annual fitness program featuring a different distance challenge each quarter.
This quarter, the first challenge is the Mercury 9 – Faith 7, which represents the final crewed space mission of the U.S. Mercury program. The spacecraft, named Faith 7, completed 22 Earth orbits before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. Fortunately, you don’t have to swim the distance of 22 orbits, just 22 miles. Registration period is March 25 – April 5; the challenge begins April 1 and ends June 29.
Track your distance. (All swimming must be done at Peterson’s Aquatic Center, unless on TDY orders.)
Each Swim the Distance challenge:
- Participants will receive a T-shirt for each Swim the Distance challenge they complete.
- Plus, the top three participants will receive a medal and their photo on the Swim the Distance wall.
- First place winners of each challenge will have their names placed on the facility plaque.
Fill out the registration form at the Aquatic Center, Bldg. 404 on Ent Ave., 719-556-4608.
Cost to participate is $40 per person per challenge.
