Welcome Message From Your School Liaison Program Manager

Welcome to Colorado! My name is Jackie, and I am your School Liaison Program Manager. I want to extend my assistance to help you and your family transition smoothly to Peterson SFB.

The Colorado Springs area has 10 main school districts near Peterson SFB, and I am here to ensure you know the options for public, private, virtual and home-schooling education opportunities for your family. This includes assistance with special educational services for school age and pre-school children. In addition, I can assist you with Military Interstate Compact (MIC3) on Educational Opportunities for Military Children. This compact provides support for children during school transitions, to include dependents of retirees. Please feel free to reach out for any questions.

Please feel free to reach out to School Liaison with any questions or concerns.

STARBASE Academy – A Department of Defense Youth Program

DoD STARBASE focuses on elementary students, primarily fifth graders. The goal is to motivate them to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) as they continue their education. The academies serve students who are historically under-represented in STEM. Students who live in inner cities or rural locations, those who are socio-economically disadvantaged, low in academic performance or have a disability are in the target group. The program encourages students to set goals and achieve them.

Military Child Education Resources

Here are several helpful websites for military families looking for good schools, for a checklist when their children transfer schools, and for those who have children with disabilities.

Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission
The compact addresses key educational transition issues encountered by military families including enrollment, placement, attendance, eligibility and graduation.

Great Schools Find schools to match your child’s K-12 educational needs. Here are five online resources for finding great schools:

  1. Colorado Department of Education (CDE) – As a dynamic service agency, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) provides leadership, resources, support and accountability to the state’s *178 school districts, 1,927 schools, over 55,000 teachers and over 4,100 administrators to help them build capacity to meet the needs of the state’s approximately 886,517 public school students.
  2. NICHE – Finding the right school shouldn’t be hard. From K‑12 to college to grad school, we make it easy to discover and connect with the best ones for you. Your search is unique, just like you. We give you all of the data, reviews, and insights in one place to make your search as easy as possible.
  3. Colorado School Grades – gives the military family the ability to compare schools that are located in Colorado against each other. Colorado school grades provide accessible, easy-to-understand information about Colorado school performance. Learn more about the nonprofit coalition behind Colorado School Grades. Using the exact same variables and weights as the Colorado Department of Education’s School Performance Framework, we translate the state’s data into letter grades (A-F) for public schools.
  4. Great Schools – looks at parenting, academics, learning with disabilities, and more.
  5. School Quest – An online resource for finding future schools for your child.
